It doesn't get more authentic than Pachangos. Jose y familia do a kick ass job. Don't waste your time looking for other Puerto Rican restaurants. This ignorant city doesn't have another. Jose is real and so is his food.

Order everything. It's delicious! My husband and I always get the fried pork plates with tostones. He also loves the empanadas. Ask for the spicy sauce too. This is our favorite food truck in Austin!

El Pachango is one of those hole-in-the-trucks you'd probably find in a Puerto Rican neighborhood in NYC. Their food pretty authentic: you have mofongo (a fried plantain mash), pernil (a slow roasted pork shoulder), arroz con gandules (rice and peas), carne frita (fried pork chunks) and more. I got the carne frita, the pork was fantastic and had a homemade taste you won't find at more upscale restaurants. Simple, but packs a flavor punch. The arroz was pretty good too, I would eat it all day. The owner(?) was super friendly and gave us samples of the food when we were figuring out what to order. He has an awesome radio-worthy voice! By the way, they're cash only. Honestly I'm surprised this is the first review. I'm hoping El Pachango gets more eyeballs on it, there's so much more to Austin than bars, tacos, sushi, bbq, and Asian-fusion. Long live comfort food.
